You asked and we are delivering! We’ve had requests for half a hog, rather than buying individual cuts. We will have two hogs ready to process in December, if not sooner.
Half hog price is $2.75/lb to Black Cat Barnyard and you pay the butcher processing fees. Our butcher charges .53 cents a pound for uncured meat and another 40 something cents a pound to cure bacon and hams. A half hog can weigh anywhere from 60-90 pounds.
We also have one ram lamb that is availble. He will go to the butcher in October. The butcher charges a flat rate of $90 to process. We would like $150 for him. Total cost to you is $240. Hanging weight on lambs varies but we believe your cost will come out to less than $6/lb. A plate of lamb chops at Crabby’s costs $24 so we think this is a good deal!
Finally, we still have two halves of beef available. The beef will be ready to pick up mid November. It is $3.25/lb to Black Cat Barnyard plus you pay the butcher the processing fees.
Remember, these animals have been raised with care and love. They have all been rotated through several pastures. No antibiotics were given. No steroids, no hormones. The lamb and cattle are primarily grass fed, with a little bit of grain to keep them friendly and to add a little fat/flavor to the meat.
